Buy an extra turkey when you shop at Bashas’ and they’ll set it aside for someone in need

SEDONA, AZ (November 13, 2009) – What would Thanksgiving be without a turkey, stuffing, cranberries, and pumpkin pie? For many families this year, a traditional Thanksgiving may not be possible because they are struggling to put food on the table.
Vince Monaci, the Executive Director of the Sedona Food Bank is doing something about it.
The Sedona Community Food Bank is a volunteer driven organization that places barrels at various locations throughout the community to collect food from people.
Each Wednesday canned goods, bakery items, cereal, eggs, meat, produce, milk, and even dessert items are sorted, packed up, and handed out to families in need, even taking into consideration a person’s food allergies, and dietary choices.
The box of food lasts a month and is free. It’s the generosity of the community that feeds families in need as they struggle into today’s difficult economy.
This year the Sedona Community Food Bank and Bashas’ have joined forces to help put a turkey on the table for those who may go hungry this Thanksgiving.
Next time you shop at Bashas’ put an extra turkey in your cart, and tell the cashier you that you want to donate it to the Sedona Community Food Bank. The cashier will remove your turkey and put it aside to be placed with the other donated turkeys. Bashas’ has agreed to make space in their refrigerator to store the turkeys.
The day before Thanksgiving, families in need can go to the Sedona Community Food Bank and receive a bag that may include stuffing, cranberry sauce, corn, etc. They will also receive a certificate which will allow them to go to Bashas’ and pick up a donated turkey.
Please shop at Bashas’ and think of the family you could help by donating a turkey.
To donate food directly to the Sedona Community Food Bank, drop by on Wednesdays from 9am to noon at 80 S Sunset Dr, Sedona, AZ 86336. For more info, call: (928) 204-2808.
The Sedona Community Food Bank and Bashas’ also have an ongoing program where you can link your Bashas’ card to the food bank using the ID: 28067. Bashas’ will donate 1% of your shopping dollars to the food bank.
